Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Beginning the Fall we have an exciting and deep faith-building opportunity for the youngest children in our parish.  Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (or CGS) is coming to St. Michael Catholic Church!  CGS is a Montessori-based faith formation program for children.  CGS Level 1, for children ages 3 1/2 through 6 years of age, will become available to the families of St. Michael beginning in September of 2018.  Both morning and late-afternoon sessions will be offered in 2018-2019. CGS assists children in their religious experience as they learn the fundamentals of the Catholic Faith and begin to fall in love with Jesus and his Church.  Children meet once a week during the school year in the CGS room, which is called an "atrium."  In the CGS atrium sessions children will be able to enter into the story of the Scriptures and the life of the Church through hands-on learning.  Hearing God's word and handing the materials children are able to prayerfully reflect on the voice of the Good Shepherd speaking to them.  This is known as a "work" because speaking with God is the best work that they can give to God.  Taking place in the quiet and prayerful atmosphere of the atrium, the works become a form of Lectio Divina for children.  For more information about CGS please go to the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd website
